Ingredients

  • 14 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons molasses
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/8 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/8 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • One pinch salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F and prepare 2 baking sheets by lining them with silicone baking mats or with parchment paper.
  • In a small pan, melt together the butter, molasses, and corn syrup. Heat just until the butter has melted.
  • Next, in a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, brown sugar, spices, baking powder, and salt.
